THOUGHTS AND BEST BITS
Its not the sort of film that has best bits its more of a real life drama type. But for sure JLaw knocks it out the park so any scene with her is pretty damn good.
Imagine if you will a DELIVERANCE(1972) type world but without the water or banjo. Now imagine they had evolved.... just a little lol and thats the type of world the films set in. Hardcore country fuck ups who have only just stopped fucking each other and lifes pretty shit. They live in old school wooden houses and own nothing but junk. Now open credits lol.
Ok so story wise its pretty damn good its harsh and and got that real life real world feel to it. Cold and harsh and not the place you wanna be in then we follow you Lawrence as she takes care of her mother and baby brother and baby sister and her journey over what seems to be like one week. Now one problem is its not full explained why the mum is sick they sort of assume we just know shes "sick" and cant do shit and even when we bump into other family members they dont stop to explain who they are in an easy way. So half the cast you probably see is her family lol. Now the other part of the story other than the struggles she faces is that her never seen dad is a junkie and drug maker/dealer and hes been missing and on the run for a few days and the local sheriff warns her that if he doesnt show for court soon they lose the bond and the house. So of course cue JLaw going around asking after her father and looking to see where the fuck he is. Problem is his gets well and truly drawn out for me its basically her walking around asking "have you seen my dad" to everyone and let me tell you shes no fucking Columbo lol. People give her the run around and some right old school hillbilly fucks seem to warn her off asking and coming back around ?. Now i never got why they all seem to hate each other or why they warn people off so much but hey. Its still more than watchable.
Cast wise well its got JLaw what more do you need ?. Ok shes fresh faced here and been in like a few episodes of some failed tv show and never been the lead but she owns it. Shes not only brilliant but so believable and basically carries the entire film. As for the rest of them well 80% are real life locals with no acting experience what so ever. Hell the army recruit guy is a real army recruit guy hes just talking back answering the questions JLaw asks him while shes in character lol.
Its a hell of an overrated film and the only thing worth a watch is JLaw so if you aint a fan of her to bother with this cause its low budget. But thankfully its done outside in real locations so it doesnt look like a student film or cheap its just lacking any real characters or acting from other people and sadly the story goes know where its like randomly following a person on twitter for a week lol. But if you are a fan give it a watch.
