FACT
Its written by Luc Besson the guy who gave us THE TRANSPORTER(2002) but dont worry to much he did also write and direct THE FIFTH ELEMENT(1997). Now Amber Heard is in the movie even if i cant figure out why.
THOUGHTS AND BEST BIT
Has to be easily the bathroom scene. No its not some dirty fuck up against a stall scene its actually a really fun and beautifully done scene. And during it old Costner does a god damn BODYGUARD(1992) on young Stienfeld.
Ok this is a strange film to watch and rate. Firstly its done by Besson and hes a mental motherfucker. Now im giving this flick a nice 6 outa 10 but this movie could have got an easy 9 if it had just been polished up a little more and a little more time spent on it.
The movie is not an action flick and its not even a comedy its a family drama meets action/comedy lol. We start with a typical aging spy/bourne type and follow him on a partly failed operation during which time he falls ill and then we find out hes maybe five months to live at the most soooo the CIA of course send him on his way and he sets of for Paris to try spend some time with his daughter. Now this is the point the movie goes from action to family drama BUT then it flips back again minutes later when Amber fucking Heard shows up and offers Costner an experimental drug that may or may not help cure or prolong his life. Now its never fully explained what it is or why or whats gonna happen to him on it or if its even helping. Now Heard may offer the drug but of course she wants something in return. She wants Costner to locate and kill the Wolf. No not the guy from Gladiators but the main villain that escaped in the beginning of the movie. Problem i have with this part is once given the mission to locate and kill this douchebag the film has no sense of time its just all over the place from this point on. Dont get me wrong the parts when hes playing a dad are fantastic and funny but the transition between dad to assassin are a bit choppy. And the movie does seem to lose a little pace by the end and feels a little poorly edited together but it does sort of build up to a fun and dramatic ending scene even if it is a little rushed once their.
As for out cast they were great. Costner of course knocks it out the park but young Steinfeld for me was fantastic i couldnt praise her enough in this movie. As for the rest of them well they kinda sucked. I mean the wife was maybe drunk in some scenes cause something was just off with her. But one of the bad guys had a recurring rule and i have no clue who this unknown actor was but he was great in the part.
Action wise its fantastic and comedy wise its just as good but after watching and thinking on it its really a GROSSE POINT BLANK(1997) its got the fun comedy styling with some action. But for the love of me i still cant figure out why the fuck Amber Heard is in this movie or why she changes outfit and hair styles and color ever other fucking scene. If anything shes just bugging and puzzling her character could have been played by anyone at all. Even a cameo by Joan Cusack as Heards character would have made more sense to me . But forget her and give his a watch if only to see Costner do a bodyguard on young Steinfeld.
